Nimer: a Notion timer in the macOS menu bar — 106 releases in six months
You start a timer in Notion and forget about it, and your time tracking stops being true. Nimer keeps the timer in the menu bar and around the MacBook notch, and on the lock screen and Dynamic Island on iPhone. The first public release shipped three days after the first commit, followed by 106 releases between March and September 2026 with over-the-air updates.

Before
- A Notion timer lives inside a page: close the tab and you forget it is running. Time tracking turns into guesswork.
- Off-the-shelf trackers make you reshape your workspace around their structure or keep time in a separate service.
What was built
A timer you cannot forget
Time is always visible in the menu bar, and on a MacBook Pro in a minimal interface around the notch. The progress ring changes colour as a session runs long.
Works with any workspace
Sign-in through Notion OAuth, no API keys. Dynamic field mapping adapts to the structure of your databases, so nothing has to be rebuilt for the app.
Quick start from any app
Cmd+Shift+N creates a task and starts the timer immediately, with project filtering via @.
iPhone companion
The timer runs in Live Activities on the lock screen and in Dynamic Island, synced with the Mac.
A release cycle like a big product
Over-the-air updates via Sparkle with separate dev and prod channels, a DMG installer, a dedicated licence server and a Node.js backend in Docker.

Questions
Does Nimer work with my Notion database structure?
Yes. The app does not require a particular template: dynamic field mapping adapts to your databases — you only point it at the field that holds time.
Do I need a Notion API key?
No, sign-in is through Notion OAuth, like any official integration. There are no keys to copy by hand.
How do updates arrive?
Over the air via Sparkle: the app offers the new version itself. Between March and September 2026 there were 106 releases.
